Aqara door/window sensor

The Aqara Door and Window Sensor is a two-piece Zigbee contact sensor for monitoring whether a door, window, cabinet or similar opening is open or closed. The main sensor and magnet are mounted on opposing sides of the moving gap.

The standard model is MCCGQ11LM. Aqara lists CR1632 battery power, Zigbee communication and a compact 41 × 22 × 11 mm sensor body. The specified maximum detection gap is about 22 mm, so correct alignment matters during installation.

A Zigbee hub is required for app reporting, notifications and automations. This model can be used with Mi Home through compatible Xiaomi/Aqara Zigbee gateways. In practice, older Aqara devices can have region- and gateway-specific availability in Xiaomi Home, so the intended hub should be checked before purchase.

The sensor only reports contact state; it does not provide a local siren or direct Wi-Fi connection. Smart actions are performed by the gateway and the wider automation system.

Pair the control with the intended gateway before permanent mounting and confirm that the required button events appear in the selected Mi Home region. Zigbee scene switches rely on the gateway for automation logic, so they control other devices through configured scenes rather than through a direct electrical connection. Multi-packs contain independent switches; each unit is paired separately and can be assigned its own actions.

Once paired, the switch is best treated as a flexible scene input: assign actions that remain intuitive for the people using the room and label unusual functions if necessary. Because the control is wireless, it can be positioned independently of the load being controlled. Battery-powered remotes also remain electrically isolated from the lighting circuit, which is the main practical difference from wired wall switches.
